Obituary of Dorothy M. Adams

Dorothy M. Adams, age 97 of Bancroft, passed away Wednesday morning, October 24, 2018 at Willow Brook Point Assisted Living in Stevens Point. She was born Dec. 29, 1920 in Plainfield the daughter of Martha (Weyneth) and Walter Callahan. She married Carl T. Adams on August 15, 1942. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2013. Dorothy and Carl farmed in the town of Bancroft until retiring to the Plover area in 2010. She embraced the farming world including the hard work, long hours and juggling time to raise a family. Carl and Dorothy were surrounded by a wonderful farming community of friends that have remained part of their lives through the many challenges they have faced in their aging years. Dorothy was extremely proud of her Irish heritage. She often relayed “I’m the oldest of ten Irish kids” or “I’m a stubborn, old Irish woman,” both being reasons she believed she lived to be 97 years old! Moreover, not just her immediate family, but her extended family, were of utmost importance to her. Whenever the opportunity arose, she would talk of a grandchild’s or a nephew or a niece’s recent accomplishment. That can also be said for children of those nephews and nieces. Up to the week before her death, she was still stating whose birthday was coming up or an anniversary that was recently celebrated. Visits from relatives and friends were always greatly appreciated and relived several times. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Gerald) Fletcher, Bancroft; her grandchildren, Amber (Kevin) Progar, Pullman, WA; Patrick Adams, Bancroft, WI; Amanda (Matthew) Lawson, Madison, WI; Jeffrey Fletcher, Franklin, WI, and four great grandchildren. She is further survived by daughter-in-law Mary Adams, Bancroft, WI; sister Ruby Garrett, Menomonee Falls, WI and brother, Jim (Madeline) Callahan Hancock, WI along with many other relatives and special friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Adams, brothers Dick Callahan, Chuck Callahan and Jerry Callahan, sisters Marge Sullivan, Annabelle Allison, Blanche Bartels and Mabel Sullivan. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Almond, WI. There will be visitation at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 12:00. A graveside service will follow at the Plainfield Cemetery. Please join us for light refreshments as we celebrate Dorothy’s life sharing memories, and visiting with friends and family.
