Obituary of George Joseph Sherman

George J. Sherman, age 90, of Plainfield, passed away Saturday evening May 5, 2018, at Portage County Health Care Center in Stevens Point. George was born April 20, 1928, in Allenton, Wisconsin, the son of John A. and Cordelia (Schliesman) Sherman. George attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Allenton and graduated in 1948 from West Bend High School. He married Radine J. McIntee on December 27, 1955, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Plainfield. George served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict 1951-53. After serving his country, George moved back to Plainfield and helped his father in the family feed mill business. George took over the business after his father's death and operated Sherman Feed and Supply for 38 years until his retirement in 1992. George was also active in his community. He was a charter member of St. Paul's Knights of Columbus and its first Grand Knight, along with being the Navigator of the Fourth Degree Chain of Lakes Assembly. He was also a volunteer for the Plainfield Fire Dept., a member of the American Legion and Plainfield Chamber of Commerce, was a founding committee member of Tri-County Ducks Unlimited, and served the Plainfield Township for over 31 years. George also drove school bus around the Plainfield area for over 42 years. He loved the kids and enjoyed driving various teams to events and watching them perform. George loved all sports, deer and turkey hunting, and Canada fishing trips with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren in various activities and spending time and having a drink with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Radine J. Sherman, Plainfield; his children, Dr. Paula Crum, Green Bay; John (Lisa Junion) Sherman, Hancock; Karla Sherman, Plainfield; and Dr. Marne (Dr. David Barnum) Sherman, Kansas City; his grandchildren, Dr. Phillip Crum; Olivia Crum; Madelyn Junion-Sherman; and Sherman Barnum; and a sister, Eunice Klein, West Bend. George is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends. George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Geraldine Karnitz, Louise Precourt, Leon H. Sherman, and Margaret Kietzer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Plainfield with the Rev. Andrew Kurz officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday at the church and from 9:00 AM Saturday until the time of services at the church.
